Food Truck Guidelines
Food Trucks are allowed in the Town of Lillington through the Lillington Code of Ordinances in accordance with Article XI, Chapter 116 Food Truck Regulations.
A permit is required
- A Food Truck Permit Application must be completed with all requested documentation. These applications can be submitted in person or via email to Jillian Brookshire at jbrookshire@lillingtonn.org.
- A one-time permit is valid only for the day and time that it is issued. One must seek an annual permit or apply multiple times for a one-time permit for additional events
- Permits are valid for one (1) year from the date of issuance and must be renewed annually
- The permit must be displayed while the food truck is in operation within Town jurisdiction
When can food trucks operate?
- Two days per week for annual and one-time permits
- Between the hours of 7 AM and 11 PM
- As part of a Town approved Special Event
- No overnight parking or storage is permitted
Where can food trucks operate?
- On developed non-residential property that is occupied by a business when the business is open
- On a private lot containing a principal building, with signed property owner approval
- At a special event approved by the Town
- A minimum of 100' from the main entrance of any brick-and-mortar restaurant with similar food or service
Where food trucks cannot operate
- On a vacant lot or at a closed business
- On a town street
- On a public sidewalk
- In any private parking area in a manner that impedes, endangers, or interferes with pedestrian or vehicular traffic
- Within 50' of a residential dwelling or zoning district (excluding those locations listed above)
- Within any shopping center containing a restaurant with similar food or service
Prohibited Actions
- No freestanding signage shall be permitted
- No outdoor seating areas associated with a food truck shall be permitted
- All equipment required for food preparation must be contained in the Food Truck
- Temporary connection to potable water are prohibited
Food trucks must be located at least
- 15' from a building entrance, driveway, intersection, ADA ramp, or fire hydrant
- 100' from a restaurant/bar entrance or outdoor dining area that is not associated with the host
Operation standards
- A trash receptacle must be provided for all customers. All associated equipment, including trash receptacles, must be within 3' of the food truck
- The food truck operator is responsibl for proper disposal of waste and trash associated with operations
- Grease must be contained and disposed of in an approved grease receptacle located at the associated commissary
- Gray water must be contained and disposed of in the sanitary sewer at the associated commissary
- Food trucks must have a Minimum Class 2A, 10B, and C rated fire extinguisher on board. If food preparation involves deep frying, a Class K fire extinguisher must also be on board
- All required town, county, and state permits and licenses must be clearly displayed on the food truck
